When I was 16 years old my oldest brother, who was working in a Magic Chef stove foundry in Cleveland, Tennessee, bought a 1947 Chevrolet pick-up truck. Since he already had a vehicle to drive I took over the truck. The truck was a real experience in driving. It had the old 6-volt electrical system on it, so if you had run the windshield wipers and lights at the same time and the generator was the least bit weak, you had better park on a hill so you could roll it off to get it started. It was blue, painted with blue "house paint." The fenders were rusted out in the back so badly that they had disconnected from the rest of the truck. If you went very fast (not much danger of doing that) the fenders would flap in the wind like a bed sheet. The main feature of the interior was the huge steering wheel that seemed oversized compared to modern cars and trucks. When you drove down the road you really had to stay alert because the steering wheel had a lot of "play" in it. That means you could turn it a quarter of a turn and the wheels do nothing in response. So to keep in the middle of the road and between the lines and ditches was a great work to be accomplished! Ha!
Sometimes we are like that old 1947 Chevrolet pick-up truck. Our lives don't stay spiritually charged very well and a little drive and we have to be "jump started." Also our lives sometimes resemble the old truck in that it seems we have to have continual diligence or we run in the ditch or cross the line. God wants us to become so sensitive to his touch and so responsive to His direction that it could never be said of us, "There's a lot of play in that wheel!"
