HomeReflectionsMore Than Loose Strings
When I was a boy our nearest neighbor was nearly a mile away. The ladies didn't get many opportunities to socialize, as is often the case now. One thing that brought the ladies together was a "quilt'n." In the ceiling of our living room were metal rings through which a wooden quilting frame was attached. Certain times of the year several ladies of the community would come to our house and the ladies would make a quilt together. This was a great time of fellowship and joy as they shared the latest news. As they quilted they would not notice that I was crawling under the frame to listen and to aggravate as much as I possibly could by pulling on the loose strings when they engaged in a story. The quilt was quite fascinating to me as a boy. All the different colors of thread and all the different lengths of thread hanging down really looked like a mess! Looking from underneath there was no pattern; nothing made sense, just loose ends. What was really amazing is when the ladies had finished I would come out from underneath and see the beautiful masterpiece before my eyes! What had appeared to be nothing but a mess underneath was really a beautiful plan and design, each one different, but each one beautiful. The difference was "the way you looked at it." From underneath, it was just loose strings. But from "above" it was a plan that had a definite beginning and end and what the end was going to look like was known from the beginning.
Sometimes life just doesn't seem to make sense. That is when we look at life from "underneath" -- from an earthly perspective. But when we look at life from God's perspective (wisdom), it all makes beautiful sense. We see that God was making something beautiful out of all we thought was just "loose strings"! God knows what you are going through and He knows what He is doing. His design is to make you like Jesus!
